Monotheism is the religious belief in the existence of one God. This form of theism is common among the Abrahamic religions, Sikhism, Zoroastrianism and some forms of Hinduism.

    Sub-Philosophies[edit | edit source]

    Classical Theism[edit | edit source]

Classical Theism is a theological doctrine which views God as a transcendental being which is the basis for all of reality. In this view, God isn't contained within existence, but is instead that which all of existence depends upon. It is therefore necessarily monotheistic as God isn't viewed as just a powerful creature, but a metaphysical being which is above even reality itself. Other attributes of God include aseity, simplicity, immutability, eternity, omnipresence, omnipotence and much more.

The doctrine is opposed to a variety of other depictions of God such as Deism, Pantheism and Theistic Personalism. It usually views these as either being quasi-polytheistic, i.e. there could be multiple Gods but there just so happens to be one, or atheistic.

    Absolute Creationism[edit | edit source]

Absolute Creationism is a form of Metaphysical Realism which believes in eternal and necessary truths, but sees them as dependent on God for their existence.

    Divine Conceptualism[edit | edit source]

Divine Conceptualism is another form of Metaphysical Realism which teaches that universals exist in the mind of God. God is viewed as an architect which first thinks of creation and then uses this thought as a blueprint for what He is about to create.

    Divine Illumination[edit | edit source]

Divine Illumination is an epistemological stance which teaches that knowledge can only be gained once God "illuminates" the mind. According to this theory, human knowledge is tied to the knowledge in the Divine Mind and humans can't therefore gain knowledge without the aid of God.

    Trinitarianism [edit | edit source]

Trinitarianism is a monotheist view found in Christianity. It states that there's only one God, but also, at the same time, three hypostasis (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). The Godhead is of one substance, ousia, and all the hypostasis are fully God. This means that the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are all God, but the Son is not the Holy Spirit, the Holy Spirit is not the Father and the Father is not the Son. A similar concept can be found in Jewish Kabbalah, although under the name of "Sefirot".

    Relations[edit | edit source]

    Friends[edit | edit source]

    Frenemies[edit | edit source]

Enemies SI VIS PACEM, PARA BELLUM.[edit | edit source]

    • Atheism - Infidel!
    • Polytheism - Misguided which divides divinity by worshiping the creation instead of the Creator.
